President’s Message: M. A. “Buddy” Maedgen, Jr. Agriculture has been our company’s primary interest. My family were German farmers back to the 1500’s in the area of Dresden and Hanover. Diversified production operations of vegetables, cotton, grain, and cattle have sustained our family for centuries.
My education started with Christian parents who instilled work ethics in their children early. We enjoyed growing up and working together on the farm near the agricultural community of Mathis, TX. Friends and kinfolk were dear. Most relatives graduated from Texas A&M College. My grandfather, C. A. Maedgen, Sr., ‘08, and my father Malcolm A. Maedgen, Sr., ‘33, (at right) majored in
Animal Husbandry. I majored in Plant Sciences, ‘58, my daughter, Kimberly M. White majored in Exercise Technology, ‘84; and my son Kreg A. Maedgen majored in Agricultural Economics, ‘87. Following three years as an Army Aviator, I farmed and raised livestock for 22 years. Here we became familiar with natural enemies as crop protectants. My mother, Evelyn Maedgen, born and raised on a South Texas farm, has spent most of her life at family farm operations while teaching school for 35 years. Love of family and nature are evident in her prized cooking and flower gardening. She specializes in homemade pies, cakes, fried chicken and cornbread that have become family trademarks. One of the most potent beneficials known to man is the Lacewing | Company Background
Experiencing benefits from the use of natural enemies (beneficial insects) as crop protectors led the Maedgen family to construct our “insectary” in 1978. A family affair since inception, production diversity increased to twenty species during the 80’s. Refinement of objectives led us to focus on 10 species today.
